Iam so excited to share this absolutely gorgeous couple's maternity session photography on the journal today. Chris and Corissa live in Florida but were here visiting with Chris's family in Colorado where he grew up. They are expecting a baby girl and are planning to name her Winter (Shout out to all the "time of year" names out there!) so I am stoked that we finally got some snow on the ground for their pictures. It's been way too dry here on the Front Range of Colorado for this time of year but we just got a little bit of snow just in time for their maternity session. It has all but disappeared down in Denver where I live, but luckily Lost Gulch is up into the mountains of Boulder on Flagstaff Road so it was still cold and high enough for it to stick around for awhile. It definitely made for a beautiful winter wonderland feel in the pictures but we had to work pretty quickly since it was freezing outside. I wanted to take them down a path that I normally use up at Lost Gulch but discovered that it was just too slippery and snowy to safely get up where the views were. We turned around and used the more popular area at Lost Gulch Overlook as the sun set and the sky changed into a lovely soft pastel colors. Corissa and Chris looked amazing in their maroon red coordinated clothing for the session. I absolutely loved Corissa's long form fitting mermaid dress which showed off her beautiful mama-to-be curves with just enough extra flowy fabric on the end to add some drama. And her gorgeous gold jewelry and bright winning smile was the cherry on top! It was really hard for me to narrow down some favorites from this one, but I managed select the ones shown below. Congratulations to Corissa and Chris expecting their first baby girl!
I can't even pick a favorite from this session, but I'm ending with this one because I love Corissa's beautiful smile and this sweet tender moment between her and Chris!
Today is Halloween and I have the perfect autumn family photo session to share for my favorite holiday! Wendy got in touch with me last month because her husband, Pete, said that he wanted to get some updated family photos for his birthday. They live in Denver like me, but were thinking about doing them in Boulder since he has always loved the Boulder Flatirons mountain after attending the University of Colorado as an undergrad. I grew up in Boulder County myself so I understand holding a special place in my heart for that iconic view. Knowing this, it was an obvious choice to see what the fall color was looking like at Chautauqua Park since those Flatirons are the main focus of that beautiful park in Boulder. Luckily, there was still plenty of nice color throughout the park and we walked up the hill to get to it along the trails behind the Chautauqua Dining Hall. There's a path back there that takes you past the vacation cottages to the Upper McClintock Trail which is surrounded in gorgeous autumn color. I had so much fun with this family and they were really good sports about playing along with my silly games and prompts to attempt to get some genuine smiles out of them. Their kids were really fun and rambunctious with each other too and it reminded me of me and my siblings when we were young. Looking at them rough-house playing you might mistakenly assume they aren't friends, but you can see that sparkle of love in their eyes when they're laughing together. We were thinking about heading up Flagstaff Road to Lost Gulch Overlook for sunset photos too, but it was starting to get chilly and the beautiful autumn trees stacked up in front of the Flatiron mountains was the perfect backdrop for the end of their session. Pete, I hope this was a good birthday treat for you! Here's a small selection of my favorites from the session. Happy birthday!
Iget to feature one of my oldest derby friends on the blog today. Lauren and I go way back. I first met her over 10 years ago when we were both skating for Rocky Mountain Rollergirls. She and I were actually both on the league's very first travel team roster together. She moved to Georgia for a little bit but it's pretty great to see her back here in Colorado. One of the best things about the work that I do is that every so often I get to reunite with old friends. We laughed about the time that I made everyone pose for a league calendar as a fundraiser and how far we've both come since then. Lauren is based in Fort Collins right now and she's a wonderful writer. She wanted to get some headshots done for a new website she's working on. We thought it would be nice to show her enjoying the great outdoors of Colorado in the pictures. One of my favorite places in the Front Range for great mountain views is Lost Gulch Overlook up Flagstaff Road in Boulder. So we decided to meet up there where there is no shortage of dramatic beautiful blue mountains for backdrops. I also like how the Boulder city lights glow at dusk which also look beautiful in photos. It certainly doesn't hurt to have such a gorgeous model with lovely red hair and blue eyes posing for the portraits too. As you can see in the photos below Lauren and those views go very well together!
One of the sweetest couples that I've ever had the pleasure to photograph recently got back in touch with me to let me know that they were having a baby. I photographed their wedding in Boulder back in 2012 up at Sunrise Amphitheater and Flagstaff House. It's incredible how much their lives have changed in such a short amount of time. Alycia had a stint working in Southern California but is now back in Boulder and John is a referee for the NHL and travels a lot during hockey season. And the best change is their new family member they named Kaitlyn. She's a year old now and they wanted to get some updated family photos with their new daughter together. She's just the cutest little girl and her tiny little hands holding onto the apples we found at the South Mesa Trail could not be cuter! Check out their sneak peek below!
